#1 Start with a Single Variable

It is surprising that we don't recommend starting with two or more and then connecting them.

The continual surprise is that single variables, well conceived, naturally and easily draw forth the needed next variables.

Follow this advice and you won't have the conundrum of trying to figure out how to connect variables.

**As it turns out, impersonal diagrams and models are ineffective in inspiring or motivating.**

**Therefore**; when you (an individual or a group) are looking over someone else's CLD, pick out a variable of interest and then begin the process from there. In other words start again. See what you or the group come up with. Then look at the prior work for their additions and insights--to be added to your own.
