Reinforcing Feedback Loops

As we build out in this way we start to identify feedback. This is a loop of inter-connected variables.

There are only two kinds of loops. This is a reinforcing loop because it will reinforce whatever behavior we start with.

When reinforcing loops are working in our favor we call them virtuous. When they are against us we call them vicious.

We can identify them by counting the number of O’s. If the number is even or there are no O’s then the loop is reinforcing.

This form of feedback causes exponential growth or decline.

Here are two further examples of reinforcing feedback loops. Interest accumulates in a bank account. More chickens more eggs, more eggs more chickens after a delay (which is what the two lines symbolize.) We could substitute adults and babies of any species and te structure and behavior still holds.
